Critical Essay on Commanding and Powerful Woman Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth is the single most dominant female character in both classical and modern literature. Shakespeare painted her a commanding woman with an absolute lack of humanity and a deadly lust for power (whilst not doing the same for her spouse, Macbeth). Her inhumanity can be spotted in the very first scene where she wishes upon the spirits (that tend on mortal thoughts) to take from her the female’s natural instinct to love and care. Her desire to become queen is strong and immutable and it is, in fact, the only thing about her, while being compared to her historical counterpart that Shakespeare intentionally exaggerated.

She is seen taunting her spouse continuously for his lack of bravery, while, given his occupation, everyone could tell that he has shed a great deal of blood on countless battlefields. Her most cunning fabrication all through the narrative of the play is the act of luring the king into their castle. And, her ability to deceive him so perfectly, being the compassionate hostess she becomes, is quite extraordinary; Lady Macbeth is quite the actor. Another instant of this occurs in the murder scene where she faints as soon as she discovers of King Duncan’s death. It leaves the audience vexed and forces them to think whether this is a part of her act or not.

Soon after Macbeth becomes king, the course of events, in all their roughness, becomes a little too difficult even for her to handle. She begins to lose her sanity and thus doesn’t remain what she used to be. Her mental condition then forces her to confess to her part in Duncan’s murder. Eventually, Lady Macbeth breaks down and witnesses her own demise. I believe her death is what puts the tale into a balance. If you introduce a character like that into your story, you have to add something redeeming for the audience before you place the last full stop.

But she had no command over the schemes because Lady Macbeth kept herself away from all the women throughout the play. She unravels the secret of murder as, at the end of the day, she is a woman.

The character of Lady Macbeth is demonstrated as a person coming up with rebellious ideas. Lady Macbeth strengthens are intellectuality to benefit herself by using her extraordinary smart capabilities. On the other side of the story, Lady Mac duff that is shown as a perfect example of motherhood has no contacts with any evil because she devotes her time, intellectuality and energy on the accomplishments of her children and husband. Strange yet interestingly, patriarchy exposes the intelligence of Lady Macbeth which overflows and is an indicator of she being incredibly unnatural or artificial and a woman who is ungratified.

Speaking about the patriarchal society, it encourages and demands Lady Macbeth to the mother’s role dedicatedly. Lady Macbeth’s character reflects strongly abnormality, selfishness and cruelty. This is apparent from the where she makes a confession in dashing out her child’s brain. According to a woman’s biological setup which defines her tenderhearted, forgiving and affectionate, Lady Macbeth is just the opposite as her brutal statement had reached the height of being unnatural. Moreover, for the patriarchal society finds the role of Lady Macbeth unimaginable as they belief in a woman s wish and efforts to keep her children protected from all sorts of evil. Therefore, understanding in terms of the patriarchal depiction of Lady Macbeth, she turns out to be an infinitesimal person harassed by haunting guilt and nightmares.

The Powerful Lady Macbeth

In William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is the strongest character. Lady Macbeth's character is not as eclectic as her husband's but it is just as dramatic. Lady Macbeth has a rich and fascinating combination of qualities. She is not a monster without feeling; her husband adores her, for example, "Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck," (III, ii, 45). Macbeth also refers to Lady Macbeth as his dear partner. Lady Macbeth is horrified by blood and during her sleepwalking soliloquy she refers to her little hand suggesting a delicate nature and stature by uttering this: "All the perfumes / of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand." (V, i, 43-44). All of this, however,…show more content…

Seemingly, she suffers no pangs of conscience. It is easy for her to be "bright" and "merry" and it seems second nature for her to play at being the most gracious of hostesses. Duncan is completely deceived by her "thoughtfulness." Also, take in consideration that in the midst of her chaotic dinner party, she retains her composure and saves her husband from added embarrassment.

In today's vernacular, she might accurately be characterized as being an "iron butterfly"-delicate but invincible. She is impatient and absolute when her husband cannot carry out the details of their assassination plot. Although it is Macbeth who commits the actual deed of murder, it is Lady Macbeth who returns to Duncan's chamber and smears the blood upon the grooms. Her self-control is superhuman; in fact, Macbeth is terrified of it and her unfailing resourcefulness. In this example, Shakespeare demonstrates how much self control she has over the evil deed: "A little water clears us of this deed: / How easy it is then!" (II, ii, 66-67). In fact, Lady Macbeth tried to murder Duncan herself, but he appeared to look like her father while he was sleeping so she could not.

Selfishly, she fastens her husband's attention on the throne of Scotland. It is she who sees to the details of the crime: "Only look up clear. / To
